Intermediate Hurling League

Our Intermediates began their Tipperary GAA league campaign at home to Cahir Gaa last Saturday. Cahir came out of the blocks extremely fast, winning three consecutive frees from three rapid attacks. Our half back line soon steadied the ship, with Jamie Houlihan, Lee Mackey and Mikey Whelan showing great tenacity and calmness under pressure.

Cahir caused plenty of problems for our full back line with ball after ball delivered in, but the two corner backs Shane Cronin and Harry Still were again tenacious, while Conor O’Shea at full back showed real leadership, attacking the ball and organising the men around and in front of him.

Conor Mackey and captain Aaron O’Halloran had their work cut out for them at midfield against a very powerful and fit Cahir pairing. The lads took the challenge in their stride, a testament to their preseason preparation.

Our half forward line were vital throughout the game. With Cahir’s half backs pushing forward regularly, they were often required to defend as well as attack. Having forwards who can win and defend a ball is a huge asset. Ray Cooke was clinical from placed balls, finishing with a 100 percent record from frees along with some excellent scores from play.
Debutant Erin Cronin Walsh showed great strength and power at centre forward, while second debutant David Cooke showed real youthful energy going forward. Both players showed great promise on their first outings.

We created a real goal threat with a full forward line of Brandon O’Sullivan, David Houlihan and Conor Corcoran. The Cahir full back line had a serious task keeping up with their pace, while their goalkeeper was very sharp to keep a clean sheet.

At half time we introduced another debutant, bringing on Cormac O’Connor for the hardworking Kevin Faulkner. The two goalkeepers have given management a real headache when it comes to selecting the number one jersey, with both bringing different strengths to the position. Healthy competition like this can only benefit the team.

After a tough 60 minutes, we came out on top with a score line of 0-19 to 0-16. It was a great start to the league campaign. Compliments also to referee Brian Tyrell who allowed the game to flow throughout, never an easy task especially at this time of year.

St Patrick’s Day Parade

We will be meeting at the club at 12:15pm before heading over to the starting point at the Co-Op in Carrickbeg for the St Patrick’s Day Parade. The parade is always a great day out for the club and community. Be sure to wear your red and white and come along to march with the club.

Alex Stuart Shines Under the Lights in Croke Park

The recent launch event for Musco and the GAA Youth Development programme took place in Croke Park, where a football match featuring players selected from each county was organised. We were immensely proud to learn that Alex Stuart was selected to represent Tipperary.

Not only was Alex selected, he started the game wearing the number 11 jersey at centre forward. He gave an excellent account of himself, showing great vision under pressure to set up a corner forward for a goal. Shortly afterwards he turned over possession and quickly found a teammate in the half forward line who split the posts.

Alex saw plenty of ball throughout the game and operated as a real playmaker for his side. The event proved to be an incredible experience as he lined out alongside and against some of the best young players in the country.

Musco also showcased their lighting technology with a spectacular display throughout the evening. It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved.
